As Sonder continues to grow, we’re focused on supporting the cities and communities we call home.
In the Spring of 2020, Sonder launched an initiative to provide medical care workers across Rome with free accommodations. Knowing that doctors and nurses were in need of a place to stay for an extended period of time, due to many isolating away from their family, we opened up our apartments located close to major hospitals, including the National Institute for Infectious Diseases, to provide healthcare workers with comfortable and safe accommodation.

One day, while I was looking for apartments for rent in Rome, I found a post on Facebook in which it was written that Sonder made available apartments for free for doctors and nurses. After not even a day they found me an apartment near the Polyclinic Umberto I. The apartment was welcoming and equipped with every comfort. “Rome was one of the first cities in Europe to see the serious impacts of COVID-19 early in 2020,” said Alessandro Colombo, Sonder’s General Manager of Rome. “Opening our doors to doctors and nurses to provide them with a comfortable, safe place to stay, while they delivered critical care to those in our community, is something we were humbled to be able to offer. We are so grateful for the work they are still doing every day.”
