Trastevere

The Neighborhood

Stroll cobblestone streets past old churches and ochre-colored buildings, sip coffee in shady piazzas with hanging plants and flowers spilling from the balconies, and enjoy a more authentic, local taste of Rome in Trastevere, the former working-class district on the west bank of the Tiber, where Romans and visitors alike unwind on the steps of the fountains and enjoy life’s small pleasures in the neighborhood’s many charming boutiques, vibrant restaurants and bars, sidewalk cafes, and small museums.

There's plenty to offer within walking distance. Check out Cantina e Cucina, or Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina for some of Rome's best dining. For shopping, head to the beautiful Galleria Alberto Sordi. To explore the rest of the city, head to the Ottaviano metro station just a few blocks away.
