San Giovanni

The Neighborhood

San Giovanni challenges the definition of "authentic Rome". The neighbourhood’s modern streets are dotted with Renaissance buildings, ornate cathedrals, and dimly-lit wine bars. Here the food culture is focused on freshness rather than on high-end restaurants and entertainment can be found in the many parks, not in booming clubs. San Giovanni invites modern Romans to compare the pages of history with the amenities of today.

There’s so much to see and do within walking distance. Try out Divin Ostilia Wine Bar, a cozy local favorite, or Pasta Chef Monti, one of the neighborhood’s most popular hotspots, for traditional local fare. For a taste of the city’s rich cultural scene, head to the majestic San Giovanni Basilica, the oldest public church in the city of Rome, as well as the Colosseum, situated just east of the Roman Forum a short walk up Via di San Giovanni. To explore the rest of the city, hop on the metro from Manzoni Station just a few blocks away.
