About Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy

Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy is a leading brand of premium, design-forward apartments and intimate boutique hotels serving the modern traveler. Launched in 2014, Sonder offers inspiring accommodations and innovative, tech-enabled service in prime locations across 40 markets, spanning ten countries and three continents. 

 

Sonder was first introduced to Marriott Bonvoy on October 30, 2024, with an “early access” period allowing Marriott Bonvoy Members the ability to earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy Points in a limited capacity for their Sonder stays booked through Sonder channels.

 

Over the next few months, we are eager to share that Sonder will be fully integrating into the Marriott Bonvoy family. What exactly is changing? Marriott Bonvoy members will be able to book stays at Sonder through Marriott channels, receive exclusive member benefits and earn beyond their room rate.

What is the difference between “limited” participation vs. “full” participation in Marriott Bonvoy at Sonder properties?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

For Sonder, specifically, “limited” participation in Marriott Bonvoy means: 

  • The Sonder property is not yet bookable via Marriott channels and must be booked via Sonder.com, the Sonder app or by calling the Sonder Reservations Team 
  • All redemption bookings must be made by calling the Sonder Booking Support Team at +1 415-849-2740
  • Members who add their member number when booking a reservation on Sonder.com or the Sonder app will earn on room rate only
  • Members will not receive member benefits other than Elite bonus Points
  • Marriott Bonvoy credit card holders will earn their Card Member Bonus Points on Qualifying Purchases at Sonder

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

For Sonder, specifically, “full” participation in Marriott Bonvoy means: 

  • The Sonder property is only bookable via Marriott channels (Marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy app or Marriott Bonvoy® Customer Service), including redemption stays 
  • Members will receive member benefits (see detailed outline below)
  • Members will earn on all Qualifying Charges (beyond just room rate)



Why do some Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy properties have “limited” participation in Marriott Bonvoy, while others have “full” participation?

To ensure we are providing the world-class member experience Marriott Bonvoy members are used to, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy properties will be transitioning from their current, limited Marriott Bonvoy participation model to full participation in a series of waves spanning the next few months.

What do I need to do before my stay at a Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy® property?

Regardless of limited/full Marriott Bonvoy participation, after making a booking with Sonder, members will receive an email from the Sonder Reservations Team ([email protected]) outlining Sonder’s required Pre-Arrival Verification process which must be completed prior to arrival in order to receive unit and access code information. Not all Sonder properties have staffed front desks, which is why this is mandatory prior to arrival.

 

Note: While most Sonder properties only require one Pre-Arrival Verification submission for your account, certain properties are required by law to verify every stay, even if you’ve stayed at that particular property before.

 

The Sonder app is also recommended for members to manage all aspects of their stay, including exclusive features only available in the Sonder app.

 

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Members making bookings at limited participating Sonder properties should be sure to add their Marriott Bonvoy member number to the “Marriott Bonvoy Membership Number” field within the “Sonder Guest Info” page during the booking process in order to earn points on their Qualifying Room Rate.

How many Marriott Bonvoy® Points and Elite Night Credits will I earn with Sonder?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Sonder Hotels

  • Ten (10) points per USD spent on Qualifying Room Rates only
  • One (1) Elite Night Credit per Qualifying Night

Sonder Apartments

  • Five (5) points per USD spent on Qualifying Room Rates only
  • One (1) Elite Night Credit per Qualifying Night

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

Sonder Hotels

  • Ten (10) points per USD spent on all Qualifying Charges
  • One (1) Elite Night Credit per Qualifying Night

Sonder Apartments

  • Five (5) points per USD spent on all Qualifying Charges
  • One (1) Elite Night Credit per Qualifying Night

Can I redeem Marriott Bonvoy® Points for Stays at Sonder?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Members must book Redemption Stays (limited Sonder participating properties only) through Sonder's Booking Support Team at +1 (415) 849-2740.

Please Note: Redemption Stays must be booked at least seven (7) days prior to arrival date (by 11:59 p.m. local time at property). Nightly Upgrade Awards, Stay for 5 Pay for 4, Cash + Points, Instant Awards, Gifted Award Redemption Stays and Free Night Awards are not offered at limited participating Sonder properties at this time. See the below FAQ for policy on redemption reservation modification requests.

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:

Members can book redemption stays as they normally would on Marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy app or by calling Marriott Bonvoy® Customer Service.



How do I modify or cancel my Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy redemption reservation?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Please call the Sonder Booking Support Team at +1 (415) 849-2740. Any modifications or changes must be made seven (7) days prior to arrival and may result in a change to the Points required.

Please Note: In order to receive your Points back, cancellations must be received before the cancellation policy window takes effect (72-hours prior to check-in).

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:   

Members can modify their redemption reservation as they normally would on Marriott.com, the Marriott Bonvoy app or Marriott Bonvoy® Customer Service.



How can I tell whether I’m booking/staying in a Sonder Hotel or Sonder Apartment?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

If the property is a Sonder Hotel, it will include “Hotel” in the property name and display a blue “Sonder Hotel” icon. 

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties

The property name includes either “Apartment” or “Hotel”.



If I have a Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy stay coming up and don’t see the name of the property under the list of “limited” participating properties, what should I expect?

This means that the Sonder property has completed integration into Marriott channels and is fully participating in Marriott Bonvoy. For these stays, you can expect to receive the following:

  • Member benefits during your stay 
  • Earn on all Qualifying Charges (beyond room rate) 



What if I booked my reservation via Sonder channels, not via Marriott channels?

As long as you:

  • Input your Marriott Bonvoy member number into the reservation before checking out on Sonder.com or the Sonder app and 
  • The name of the Sonder property is not on the limited participation list below

You can expect to receive full Marriott Bonvoy participation including member benefits and Earn on all Qualifying Charges with no action required.

 

Note: If the name of the Sonder property is still on the list below, it is still in limited Marriott Bonvoy participation. See FAQ 2 for more information around what “limited participation” means for Sonder.



I forgot to add my Marriott Bonvoy® number to my Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy Reservation. Is it too late to add?

Who should I reach out to for customer service support, Marriott or Sonder?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Please direct all customer service issues, Sonder reservations support and Sonder-specific inquiries to the Sonder Support Team. 

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

Contact Marriott Bonvoy® Customer Service for all customer service support inquiries with the exception of questions related to Pre-Arrival Verification, the use of Sonder Credits and support for the Sonder App, which should continue to be directed to the Sonder Support Team. 



Can I Book a Sonder Reservation on Marriott.com and Sonder.com?

Over the next few months, some Sonder properties will only be bookable on Sonder channels while others will only be bookable on Marriott channels. 

 

Once integration completes, all Sonder properties will be bookable on Marriott channels.  



I have Sonder Credits – how can I use them on my reservation?

I am a Marriott Bonvoy® Member, do I also need to download the Sonder App?

Limited Participating Sonder Properties

Members should use the Sonder app to shop, book, modify and cancel Sonder reservations.

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

Members can use the Marriott Bonvoy app to shop, book, modify and cancel Sonder reservations.

 

Although not required, we encourage members to download the Sonder app in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy app to make the most of their stay with Sonder. The Sonder app can be accessed via your Marriott Bonvoy credentials – no separate account required.

 

Regardless of limited/full Marriott Bonvoy participation, members can utilize the Sonder app to verify and view essential stay details around room access, amenities, early check-in, late checkout, parking and chat with the Sonder digital concierge team 24/7. It's also where Members can request housekeeping services, extra towels or anything else. 



When I log into the Marriott Bonvoy® App will my Sonder reservation appear in 'My Trips' if I gave Sonder my member number?
Limited Participating Sonder Properties

No, reservations at limited participating Sonder properties will only be visible in the “Trips” section of the Sonder app and Sonder website.

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

Yes, reservations at fully participating Sonder properties will appear in the “Trips” section of the Marriott Bonvoy app and Marriott Website.



How do I report missing Points or Elite Night Credits from a stay with Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy?
Limited Participating Sonder Properties

If your arrival at Sonder was on or after October 30, 2024, and you booked your stay through Sonder channels (Sonder.com, the Sonder app, or the Sonder Support Team), you will need to contact Sonder directly to inquire about missing points. You can email [email protected] or call +1-415-849-2740.

 

Fully Participating Sonder Properties:  

If it has been more than 10 business days, members should submit a Missing Stay Request using our standard online form.
